Home Children

Ms. Comfort and Gogo Rosinah take care of 21 children who have been neglected, abused, abandoned, and orphaned. They have been looking after children, from Ps. Comforts home for the last two years. They currently have 4 disable children whose families are not able to look after them. There appears to still be great difficulty in the school systems to cater for kids in wheelchairs, financial aid is not increased due to disabilities, more helpers are needed when dealing with children with special needs. Due to all of these challenges the poor communities find it difficult to financially take care of their children, as well as time constraints. Many leaving these children with very old people who can hardly take care of themselves, a distant relative who has enough challenges. These children’s education is neglected and many times they are not bathed for days. There is a desperate need in these impoverished areas for people to rise up and take care of the disable.

The Approach House of Hope Takes:

Many children are taken away by social workers and when you look at the history of the families you see that this is a pattern that has been in the family. The mother, grandmother were raised in an institution. House of Hope seeks to change the approach and get different results. By working together we can resolve issues within the family that would otherwise cause the children to be abandoned. Helping and assisting allows the mother or father to maintain a relationship with the child, where they would otherwise have lost it, to a system. The question is always, how can we help the family.

House Wishlist

Children/Parent bonding is encouraged, despite the fact that they stay with Comfort, they need to be a part in the child’s life. They will come and visit and look at the children’s school books, showing an interest and some go home on the weekends to family members which is encouraged.

We also have children’s whose parents are sickly, single and the children are looked after at House of Hope until the parent is able to look after the child again. Some parents have addictions and though they love their children, are not able to look after them due to these bad habits. Many homes suffer from abuse and violence, anger when family members are drunk or bring visitors into the home.

How did this get Started

Comfort Ramuhulu had a desire to have this home for a long time. In 2006 she took two girls into her home and raised as them until they finished their schooling. Today they have finished their schooling and one is working and the other is a mother of twins.

In 2012 Comfort left her job as the urgency inside of her was to help the children she saw on a daily basis being neglected in her area. She would find children on the streets during school hours and follow up on how to get the children into school and assist where possible e.g. No uniform, books, family problems.

How did this get Started continue...

She went to the different homes and governing bodies to assist in placement of children in the schools. She worked with the different parents to encourage them to get their children to attend school and assisted where they needed help in aftercare and collecting them from school. She was also counselling the children and families and worked on reconciliation between family members.

In 2014 Pastor Comfort found a 9 year old disable girl living in unsuitable conditions of neglect. She took the young girl into her home and started to home school her as she had never been to school. May 2017 she was accepted into a boarding school as a Grade 1 pupil and comes home on the weekends. She is enjoying school so much and is a bundle of joy with always a smile on her face. Her first report card received was very good with 100% in Afrikaans and 96% in English.

In 2017 Comfort received 3 new disable children, ages 7, 10 and 11. She is currently waiting for placement in school and is home schooling them in the meantime. Two of them also have special needs in the area of education.

From 2014, 6 more children joined the family and the numbers just started to increase from there. Sometimes children were brought by the Police Dept/Welfare as a place of safety for a short period of time.

Today we have 18 children that are being looked after by Comfort and Mama Rosey plus her three kids. There have been at times volunteers that have come to assist but financial remuneration is requested by these volunteers of which there is not enough for their services.

Ms. Comfort was ordained in 2014 as a Pastor, by Prophet Khaya Masango at Kingdom of Sons Ministries in Riverlea (Today they are located in Selby). Pastor Comfort currently has services at her home on Sundays with the children and people in the community.
